Mrs Pat Onions has created an e-petition urging Parliament to debate how the financial cuts are disproportionately affecting people with disabilities and their carers. The petition can be accessed at this linkĀ http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/20968
Once 100,000 signatures have been received it will automatically trigger a debate in Parliament in which all of the issues can be aired.
It is essential that the government stops and considers the disproportionately negative impact the cuts to services and benefits are having on people with disabilities and their families.
I am thankful that large organisations like Making Space, RNIB, Mind, Afiya Trust and CarerWatch are on board in addition to other public figures such as the Bishops of Oxford and Blackburn and are supporting Pat’s Petition, please sign http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/20968 and ensure that debate is generated and the REAL impact of these ill considered cuts are recognised and reconsidered.
This petition is a really good idea. The government think that people with disability and their families can be targeted for swingeing cuts because we can’t speak up. And it is often difficult to be heard. But this is a way that all people with disability can make their voices heard together and ask their friends and family to support them and sign too. It is something we can all join in.
Thank you Pat for your efforts in taking this to Parliament and I hope you do get enough votes which will force them to discuss it again. Thank you also toMaking Space for their support for this petition. This is one petition which needs to be spread wide and supported. The Governments cuts on what are supposed to be the most vulnerable in society is disgraceful in view of their promise to protect the most vulnerable when they were vote seeking. More organisations and people should support this petition.
